I just got fanart of me drawn by kitikami from the talkhaus. [Direct link to image]
I wasn't expecting this at all, I don't really have any words for it. A bit surreal maybe? Looks like I may need to make that image come true some day and learn how to actually summon birds. (Other than the grackles that approach me at work.)
Thanks again kitikami.
Nothing to announce at this particular time... well maybe there is. Something looks to be happening. An idea I've had since late last year might be coming true. ('Might' being the operating word.) What is this idea though? Well, a tweet at some point will clue you guys in. When is this tweet occurring? No one knows yet. That is all.
I've been asked if I would consider doing Lets Plays and am indeed considering this. One of the issues holding it back were what games to LP. I'm thinking Mighty No 9 may be a start. Despite all the mishaps the project has gone through, I would still like to play it. A blind LP could be a good way to start this whole LP thing.
Hey Zephyr, I finally finished the game last night, after so many weeks! Despite a couple of missteps I think this is fantastic for a game boasting the length that this does! So here's my question... I was wondering if I could post my lengthy impressions of the series as a whole on a forum I kinda use sometimes. After spending what feels like three months of my life of the Distorted Travesty series, I need to find a way to express what I've experienced in painstaking detail.
also I'm totally going to be following you to see whatever your next project is
Is that ok?
Of course. It's your experience with the game. Whether it was good or bad, you're allowed to say what you want. (I couldn't stop you anyway. :P)
Could you make the game easier by adding save state or something? I still find assist mode too hard.
I really hope your next game doesn't have a bullet hell segment... because beating DT3's in Achilles just put me off the genre altogether.
Also my recorder crashed after saving... so I have to beat the CHAOS mech again...
NEVER AGAIN ZEPHYR
Could you tell me what game is magical castle music come from? I didn't see in music credits file. Sorry for my bad English.
I think that I recognized the magical castle music from one of the Donkey Kong Country games. I want to say DKC2, but I'm not entirely sure.
Anyways, I wanted to ask something about the music as well. Some of your music comes from Newgrounds. I'm certain that you either ask permission or the artists say beforehand that you're allowed to use them, that wasn't the point. What I'm curious about is, do you elaborate on what you're using them for when you're getting permission? Like, do you ever send a video or some sort of preview of the type of area you're wanting to use the song it, so they know what it's getting used for? For instance, the song used for the Airship area. Did you ever show pictures, or a video, or a playable preview of the setting with the music set up to the person who wrote the song, or did you just ask "I'm making a game and want to use this. That okay?"
If you do elaborate more on what you're using it for, how often do you get actual interest from the songwriter beyond "Oh, sure. Whatever. Go ahead."
Didn't know you knew how to use Bird Shift, Zephyr. xD
Not all of them were contacted because in the beginning I was really bad about forgetting to do so. To answer though, most simply said yes like you mentioned. But some did ask for further things such as asking to be notified on when the game was done because they were curious to try out the finished game.
As for what I sent them, I'd link them to the blog and give a summary of what the game was. I believe I did send a youtube link to 1 or 2 people though. If I can get into my newgrounds account again, I could probably go through the PMs if those are still there.
To answer Magical Castle:
The version in the game is a remix but:
DKC2: Krook's March (Toxic Tower theme)
About Newgrounds music: don't the CC Licensing Terms themselves state that you can freely use the music without prior permission as long as the creator is credited and it's not for commercial use? I don't know if the terms apply site-wide or not, but every time I clicked on a Newground audio, it had the same terms.
That means you can just take music pieces, just like from a free resources site, without the creator being aware of the music being used for the game. I know at least one person (GenoWhirled) was amused to know upon watching raocow's DT3 video that the person's music got in the game. It's also possible that the creators stopped being active in Newgrounds by the time ZephyrBurst visited their works.
Showing the game to the creators interested in it certainly seems like a good idea though.
Boss Gallery times are real time, right? Please tell me they are...
Because I just beat the first of "The Trio" in 3:30 (210 seconds) and the Gold is 237...
They are real and many of them should be extremely beatable. Those times were made by NZZ and myself a week before the game was getting released. Rushed might be the appropriate term for some of those times. Though a fair number of them are very optimized so good luck. That particular boss time was done by me. I believe my real time was something like 235, but all the gold par times are our best times +1-5 depending on the boss. Bospider had special treatment, something like +6 or +7 because it's the only boss that has true RNG. You can get unlucky, time wise, if a lot of those 'webs' spawn.
As for the CC Licensing on Newgrounds. I know of that, but I still wanted to contact when I remembered. It's just good form and I should have been better about it.
Oh, I wasn't asking about the licensing. I was curious if you showed off your game to the music composers to show them what you were using the music for, of if any of them took a particular interest in your game.
That was to anomaly. :3
I just finished watching Raocow's let's play, and I must say, the ending sucked.
Please, don't just make them die. They should be out of the program, not killed.
Just show them after they left the program, instead of killing them off. Please?
